Forecasting Occurrence and Intensity of Geomagnetic Activity With Pattern‐Matching Approaches

چکیده

Variability in near-Earth solar wind conditions gives rise to space weather, which can have adverse effects on space- and ground-based technologies. Enhanced sustained coupling with the Earth's magnetosphere lead a geomagnetic storm. The resulting interfere power transmission grids, potentially affecting today's technology-centered society great cost. It is therefore important forecast intensity duration of storms improve decision making capabilities infrastructure operators. 150 years aaH index substantial history observations from empirical predictive schemes be built. Here we investigate forecasting activity two pattern-matching techniques, using long record. techniques are an Analogue Ensemble (AnEn) Forecast, Support Vector Machine (SVM). AnEn produces probabilistic by explicitly identifying analogs for recent historical data. SVM deterministic through dependencies identified interpretable machine learning approach. As third comparative forecast, use 27 days recurrence model, based synodic rotation period. methods analyzed several metrics compared. All forecasts outperform climatology considered recurrence. A Cost/Loss analysis reveals potential economic value maximized AnEn, but shown as superior true skill score. likely that best method user will depend their need information tolerance false alarms.

Geomagnetic Activity Forecasting: the State of the Art

Short-term (days to weeks) geomagnetic forecasts are valuable for a variety of public and private sector endeavors. However, forecast skill, as measured by the success of predicting geomagnetic indices, is disappointing, especially for disturbed conditions. Possible reasons for this lack of proficiency include an incomplete understanding of the solar origins of interplanetary disturbances, insu...

Correlations between SAR arc intensity and solar and geomagnetic activity

We present a study of statistical relationships between SAR arc intensities acquired by the Paci®c Northwest Laboratory Photometer Network during 1978±1988 and solar and geomagnetic activity indices Dst; F 10:7, and Kp by use of the method of multiple regression analysis. We found signi®cant correlations between intensity and all of the indices involved. In the present work we show for the ®rst...

detection of volatile compounds of medicinal plants with some nano-sorbents using modified or new methodologies and investigation of antioxidant activity of their methanolic extracts

in this work, a novel and fast method for direct analysis of volatile compounds (davc) of medicinal plants has been developed by holding a filament from different parts of a plant in the gc injection port. the extraction and analysis of volatile components of a small amount of plant were carried out in one-step without any sample preparation. after optimization of temperature, extraction time a...

a comparison of teachers and supervisors, with respect to teacher efficacy and reflection

supervisors play an undeniable role in training teachers, before starting their professional experience by preparing them, at the initial years of their teaching by checking their work within the proper framework, and later on during their teaching by assessing their progress. but surprisingly, exploring their attributes, professional demands, and qualifications has remained a neglected theme i...
